Industry and Markets: Vietnam, Mexico and Brazil

In the morning plenary, we saw how Vietnam’s shrimp production and exports are facing significant pressure. In this follow-up session, we’ll take a deeper look at what’s happening on the ground and how different countries are navigating today’s challenges.
We begin in Vietnam, with an in-depth conversation with the CEO of Viet Uc and a senior colleague. As Vietnam’s leading integrated shrimp company, Viet Uc is at the heart of the industry’s transformation. We’ll explore the current issues impacting the sector—ranging from rising costs and disease pressure to reduced farmer engagement and global market uncertainty. Viet Uc will share how they aim to contribute to solutions and how they view the short- and long-term future for Vietnamese shrimp production.
From there, we move to Brazil and Mexico, two countries that contrast sharply with Vietnam in that their industries are built around strong domestic demand rather than exports.
We’ll start with presentations from senior executives of ADM and Cargill, both of whom have significant positions in the shrimp feed markets in Brazil and Mexico. They will provide a strategic industry overview, analyzing the value chain, and identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to the future development of shrimp farming in their respective markets.
Following these presentations, experts on consumer markets in Brazil and Mexico will join the conversation to share insights into local shrimp consumption patterns—what products are popular, how the domestic market is structured, and what potential there may be for future growth, both at home and abroad.
Together, the panel will explore how Brazil and Mexico are building resilient, locally anchored shrimp industries—and what lessons their experience offers for the global sector.
