Yahira Piedrahita is an Aquaculture Engineer graduated from ESPOL, holding a diploma in Fisheries Economics and a Master’s in Bioaquatic Resource Management and Environment. With more than 30 years of experience in shrimp aquaculture, she has extensive expertise in production, management, and quality control. She is a certified instructor in HACCP and SCP, with in-depth knowledge of EU, U.S., and Chinese food safety legislation, market access requirements, and audit procedures.
Her professional career includes senior leadership roles within Ecuador’s government, serving as Director General of Aquaculture and Director General of the National Fisheries Institute. She has also worked as a university lecturer and consultant for multinational companies and international organisations, including CBI, the European Union, UNIDO, and FAO.
Yahira is a founding member of CIDEEA, serves on the Advisory Council of the USSEC Soy Excellence Center, and was a Board Member of the World Aquaculture Society from 2023 to 2026. Since 2011, she has served as Executive Director of Ecuador’s National Chamber of Aquaculture.
