Prof. Amaya Albalat

Amaya Albalat is a Professor at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, UK. Her research is focussed in understanding how aquaculture and fishing practices impact the physiology of decapod crustaceans from a welfare perspective. Some of her current work includes assessing the impact of different stunning methods, such as electrical stunning and cold shock in shrimp. From an academic perspective, she acts as reviewer for several prestigious journals and funding agencies and she is a member of the Animal Welfare Committee that provides advice to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra, UK), as well as the Scottish and Welsh Governments, on matters relating to animal welfare.
